Welcome to the TEL3 Gym Project

In the past The Eastwood Lafayette III (TEL3) along with The  Eastwood Lafayette I (TEL1) have been in a gym sharing agreement with The Eastwood Lafayette II (TEL2) that owns the gym facility the operations of which have been subcontracted in the recent past to Paolo's Bootcamp along with gym equipment.

Pres. John F. Kennedy was once quoted as saying :

Though it was already proven that this etymology is incorrect,  the point here however is that we took a crisis such as the COVID Pandemic as an opportunity to provide the residents of  Lafayette III a much better option; i.e., to have our very own gym facility.

In the past we roughly spent around 300K a year for such arrangement hence during the COVID lockdown when gym facilities have also been shut, we saw an opportunity to break away from the agreement and decided to just use that budget to fund the building of our own.

In the beginning it was a knee-jerk reaction of sorts to acquire gym equipment as part of our year-end accruals since it was already budgeted in 2019 for FY 2020.  Then the COVID pandemic happened...

By November 2020 we formally wrote a notice to Lafayette II to signify our intent to disengage with the gym agreement.  Lafayette I also followed suit.

Initially since we were still under COVID lockdowns the gym equipment have been situated in the roof deck due to obvious reasons... It is safer to exercise in that well ventilated open space.  My initial choice was the roof deck (for future pandemic proofing) but after much debate and consideration that mostly revolved on the structural fitness or the roof deck we have decided that the best area for this is the function room.   Also, a big consideration is that heavy equipment might later damage the concrete topping that protects that polyurethane waterproofing underneath.  Hence, building integrity takes priority over additional facility.

For the function room there wasn't really much structural changes to be made.  Well the function room is a plain rectangular room which I believe was originally intended as repository of the garbage chute.  But since the chute has been disabled eons ago due to cockroach (and other pests) issues then the function room has served several purposes in the past like as an admin office of both Lafayette III and Lafayette II.  And when the current admin office was built the function room served as meeting room, event room for birthdays, and even rented out during a Star Cinema movie shoot.

To provide a bigger space the low ceiling with cove light was demolished and the ceiling painted black.   The mirrors extended to the black ceiling to also give the illusion of a bigger ceiling space.

For ventilation the old blower fan of the now decommissioned centralized aircon unit has been re-purposed to bring in outside air while an exhaust blower sucks gym air to blow it out of the room.

We are still not done yet as some aesthetic finishing remains to be done like Motivational Posters and Decals... saying something like... you know... JUST DO IT... or YOU CAN DO IT... ;)

Please bear with us... as we keep on trying to enhance the TEL3 experience...

Cheers !!!
